Our group is working on the stability, optimization, and data-analytics (SODA) for the modern power systems.
Stability is a fundamental requirement for a time-varying dynamic system. Therefore, it is essential to understand how the power system will dynamically behave under a disturbance, then control and operate the system to withstand the disturbance without losing stability.
• Economy is also an important (probably the second most important) concern during the practical operation of the power system. Therefore, it is necessary to optimally operate the system for minimizing the operating costs or maximizing the operating profits while satisfying operating constraints.
• In the meantime, numerous data are measured in the power system from different locations and in different timeframes. While such data contains significant information about the system, they are under-utilized because of lacking powerful data-analytics tools. With the advancement of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques, it is feasible to make full use of such data to support the stability analysis and optimization of the power system.
Specifically, our SODA group is working on the following three research topics.
